Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity focuses on protecting CAU accounts, data, and systems. OIT works to reduce security risks through technology, awareness, and shared responsibility across the campus community.
Phishing Awareness and Prevention
Phishing messages attempt to trick users into sharing sensitive information or clicking malicious links. These messages may appear to come from trusted sources and often create a sense of urgency.
Phishing attempts can be delivered through email, text messages, or other communication platforms. Knowing how to recognize and report phishing messages is one of the most effective ways to protect your account
How to Report Phishing Emails
If you receive a suspicious email, do not click links or open attachments. Report the message as soon as possible.
Using the Phish Alert Button
CAU uses the Phish Alert Button in Outlook to report suspected phishing emails.
- Select the suspicious email in Outlook
- Click the Phish Alert button
- Submit the report
Reporting the message sends it to OIT for review and helps protect other users across campus.

Why Reporting Matters
Reporting suspicious messages helps OIT:
- Investigate potential security threats
- Block malicious senders
- Alert the campus community when needed
Prompt reporting helps protect everyone at CAU.
Security Best Practices
- Do not share passwords or verification codes
- Be cautious of unexpected or urgent requests
- Verify senders before responding
- Lock your computer when unattended
Traveling Internationally
If you will be traveling internationally, submit a ticket to OIT Support before you travel.
When submitting the ticket, include:
- Your travel dates
- The country or countries you will be visiting
- The systems or services you expect to access
Providing this information helps OIT offer guidance and ensure secure access while you are abroad.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to CAU accounts and systems.
Information about MFA setup, usage, and support is available on the Accounts page.
