Data Survey Request
Clark Atlanta University affiliates may request institutional data or survey administration from the Department of Institutional Research (IR). IR fulfills data and survey requests with the understanding that the provided data or survey will only be used for the stated purpose. The Department of Institutional Research processes a number of data and survey requests submitted by University affiliates the entire academic year. If you are a Clark Atlanta University faculty or staff member and wish to submit a request for data or survey administration, please submit your request using the fillable Data or Survey Request Form below.
If you have questions about the forms, please contact OPAR at opar@cau.edu.
**All data requests will be reviewed by the Department of Institutional Research for compliance with applicable state and federal laws, and University policies and procedures regarding proper use of institutional data. Data requested for the purposes of surveying the University population must be reviewed by the Institutional Research Board (IRB) prior to data request submission.
Fulfillment of Request: Generally, request will be fulfilled within 7-10 business days. During busy periods (e.g. University Official Fall and Spring Census captures, Fall University Reporting seasons) or because of the nature of the request, longer times may be needed. Notice will be sent about the fulfillment time to the requester by email.
The Data Management Committee (DMC) coordinates activities and makes recommendations to improve the quality, consistency, security and accessibility of University data. The DMC serves as a central advisory committee on matters regarding data access, data integrity, data standards, and data management policy development. The DMC makes recommendations to the Executive Cabinet.
The specific charge of the DMC is to:
Define roles and responsibilities of data stewardship.
Resolve inconsistencies in data definitions and sources among units requiring consistency.
Ensure the development of a data dictionary and data standards manual.
Identify strategies and make recommendations to increase consistency and accuracy of current data.
Collaborate with OITC and relative vendors (e.g., Ellucian) on data related initiatives aligned with the University Strategic Plan.
Identify and address compliance needs and recommendations related to federal and state reporting regulations.
Document and update existing change management processes, data and information security policies and standards.
Data Management Committee This committee meets approximately 6 times a year and has the role of reviewing, sharing, and promoting consistent and effective administrative data policies and best practices.
Data Management Advisory Group This group meets 2 to 3 times per academic year. It helps to set strategic priorities for the data management committee and provides stewardship of the data in their areas. When necessary, this group will resolve differences regarding data ownership, access, and accountability.
Data Owner Responsibilies: The data owner is a senior university administrator with significant responsibility for an operational area serving as an authoritative source of data relied upon by the campus community.

This individual typically serves as the subject matter expert for the data within their unit, having been trained in the areas of data integrity, data cleaning, establishing data timelines, and the system functions they are responsible for.
Data Designee Responsibilities: The data designee is appointed by the data steward and will serve as the backup for the data steward in their respective area.
