Celebrate Giving Tuesday by Supporting CAU Scholars in the Fashion Industry
Clark Atlanta University (CAU) today announces the launch of the third edition of the CAU Fashion Lookbook. The editorial publication showcases fashion work by underrepresented HBCU student and alumni designers from the CAU Department of Art and Fashion.
The Lookbook project aims to enhance these designers’ profiles and help diversify the fashion industry through fashion photography. It also provides valuable behind-the-scenes experience for students.
“We want to maintain this platform to emphasize our students’ and alumni’s talent, creativity and merit, given the underrepresentation of Black creatives in fashion,” said Ndirika Ekuma-Nkama, Associate Professor of Fashion and Creative Director.
“As the founder of Bingoli and Clark Atlanta Alumni, I couldn’t be more excited to have our designs showcased in the CAU Fashion LookBook. Being featured reaffirms our commitment to pushing the boundaries of style and creativity. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this vibrant and forward-thinking platform while also inspiring other up & coming student designers in the process,” said Latasha Hughes, featured alumni designer and Founder/Fashion Designer of Bingoli.
Featured designers also include four-time Fashion Scholarship Fund winner Jakarie Whitaker and NBAF Fashion Forward honoree Latasha Hughes. “Being featured reaffirms our commitment to pushing boundaries,” added Hughes.
“Working with the CAU Fashion Lookbook was a very eye-opening experience for me. It was my first time assisting in a photoshoot but the atmosphere was inviting and I met a lot of cool people on set. This opportunity has helped me network with other creatives and maintain professional relationships,” said Jewelle Robinson, Graduating Senior in Fashion Design and behind-the-scenes Styling Assistant.
The Lookbook’s success is thanks to CAU students/alumni, industry professionals, and philanthropic support. The University encourages continued support to ensure this valuable platform continues. About Clark Atlanta University
Clark Atlanta University was formed with the consolidation of Atlanta University and Clark College. Atlanta University, established in 1865 by the American Missionary Association, was the nation’s first institution to award graduate degrees to African Americans. Clark College, established four years later in 1869, was the nation’s first four-year liberal arts college to serve a primarily African American student population. Today, with nearly 4,000 students, CAU is the largest of the four institutions (CAU, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Morehouse School of Medicine) that comprise the Atlanta University Center Consortium. It is also the largest of the 37-member UNCF institutions. To learn more about Clark Atlanta University, visit www.cau.edu.
