Pi Mu Epsilon is a non-secret organization whose purpose is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions. It aims to do this by 1) electing members on an honorary basis according to their proficiency in mathematics, 2) engaging in activities designed to promote the mathematical and scholarly development of its members, and 3) taking any other measures which will further the purpose stated above.

Clark Atlanta University is a member of the Georgia Delta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, along with Morehouse College and Spelman College.  

Students meeting the following criteria are eligible for membership: 

Undergraduate Students: 

  • Completed at least the equivalent of two semesters of calculus and two additional courses in mathematics, at or above the calculus level 
  • Maintained a grade point average equivalent to that of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale, both for all courses that lead to fulfillment of requirements for a major in the mathematical sciences, and also for all courses that lead to fulfillment of requirements for an undergraduate degree.  

Graduate Students: 

  • Meet qualifications of undergraduates 
  • Maintained at least a “B” average in mathematics during last school year prior to election
