The DDEP is a five-year program that awards a degree from Clark Atlanta University and a degree from any of the participating DDEP institutions. These participating institutions include:

Mission Statement

The mission of the Dual Degree Engineering Program (DDEP) is to prepare declared pre-engineering majors, through a sequence of engineering courses and participation in collaborative, cutting-edge, and innovative research activities, for eligibility to enroll in an engineering program at a partner engineering institution and obtain degrees from both institutions upon completion of the program.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Dual Degree Engineering Program is to produce diverse leaders and researchers in the fields of engineering and related disciplines by cultivating a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship by providing DDE Scholars with opportunities to engage in real-world engineering problems, research, and development projects, and collaboration with industry partners.

The Dual Degree in Engineering Program (DDEP) at Clark Atlanta University (CAU) was created to address the under-representation of African Americans in the sciences and engineering fields and produce engineers who will become industry leaders and scientific researchers. The University partners with other universities, government, industry, and community stakeholders to provide DDE Scholars with a detailed pre-engineering foundation coupled with access to hands-on experience with real-life problems through capstone projects funded by industry stakeholders and research experience in state-of-the-art laboratories. The program also promotes an applied research orientation facilitating the technology transfer of basic scientific discoveries to marketable products and services.

As a joint sponsor of the Atlanta University Center DDEP, CAU DDE Scholars may take advantage of services offered through the Atlanta University Center Dual-Degree Engineering Program Office. Services include scholarships, internships, permanent placement, and career counseling.

Transfer Information

Each participating engineering institution has established admissions guidelines in compliance with the standards set by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET). These guidelines are available to DDE Scholars during academic advisement sessions.

A general requirement for admission is that DDE Scholars must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in both their overall coursework and their Math/Science courses. This ensures their eligibility for acceptance into the partnering engineering institutions. To initiate the transfer process, DDE Scholars should submit their applications to the engineering institution before the deadlines specified by each institution. Typically, these deadlines fall approximately 6 to 9 months prior to the intended date of transfer. The transfer forms can be obtained and processed through both the CAU DDEP office and the AUCC DDEP office.

We strongly encourage DDE Scholars to seek advisement before submitting any forms to the transfer institution. Advisement sessions play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and timely transition to the partner engineering institution. In certain cases, application fees may be waived.

CAU DDE Scholars should ensure that verification forms are completed by their DDEP advisor and AUCC DDEP representative before transferring. Once all requirements at both institutions are met, the DDE Scholar is concurrently awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from CAU and a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from the engineering partner institution.

Facilities

Many research centers and laboratories serve as the foundation of the research infrastructure of the Department of Engineering. These research centers and laboratories provide excellent opportunities for students to enhance their education through hands-on experience to participate in research for their senior projects. Modern electronic classrooms equipped with fast desktop computers and multimedia presentation facilities are available to students.

Scholarship Opportunities

Several merit-based scholarship opportunities are available to students pursuing engineering degrees at Clark Atlanta University. In addition to many research assistantships and fellowships from government organizations such as NASA, the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and Department of Education, eligible students can apply for various scholarships sponsored by Ford, Dupont, General Electric, Texaco, and other companies. A wide variety of summer internship opportunities also are available.
