French, Jr., Ph.D. salutes the life and rich legacy of Louis Gossett Jr., the first African American actor to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Gossett won the award in 1982 for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the movie An Officer and a Gentleman.
