Clark Atlanta University has established Administrative Policy 12.5, Political Activities and Engagement, effective October 7, 2026, to provide guidance on political activities involving members of the University community and reinforce the institution’s neutrality in partisan political matters.
The policy affirms the University’s commitment to academic freedom, open inquiry, civic engagement, and the free exchange of ideas while outlining the distinction between individual political participation and activities conducted on behalf of or through the University.
The policy applies to faculty, staff, students, vendors, volunteers, and visitors. It permits individual civic engagement, including nonpartisan voter registration and voter education, the expression of personal political views, and educational forums that include a range of perspectives. However, the University does not endorse or oppose candidates for public office, and its resources, official communications, and platforms may not be used to support partisan political activity.
Political events, candidate appearances, and visits by elected officials are subject to applicable University approval procedures. Recognized student organizations must obtain prior written approval from the Office of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations before hosting political activities, inviting candidates or elected officials, or sponsoring political events.
Members of the University community are encouraged to review the policy to understand the requirements for political engagement and ensure compliance with applicable University procedures.
