Purpose
The purpose of the SAMHSA-funded Center is to provide training, recruit, and prepare students for obtaining advanced degrees in the behavioral health field to address mental and substance use disorders.
Vision
Vision: HBCU Leadership in Education, Awareness, and Preparation illuminates inequities and fosters solutions for marginalized communities impacted by substance use disorders and serious mental illness.
Mission
Mission: The mission of HBCU L.E.A.P. is to raise awareness of and offer access to behavioral health fields for diverse students.
Goals
The Goals of HBCU L.E.A.P. are to:
- To raise student awareness of multiple career pathways to behavioral health;
- To increase the number of students prepared to enter the behavioral health field upon completion of their terminal degree; and
- To enhance retention among students by expanding partnerships among HBCUs and between students and behavioral health service providers
