Bio: Dr. Sonya Okoli is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor and Program Chair of Higher Education Leadership and a native of Charleston, South Carolina. A first-generation college graduate, she earned her sociology degree from Fisk University. Her work is grounded in a commitment to equity and social justice, shaped by her experiences in underfunded schools. Dr. Okoli’s research examines sociocultural dynamics, educational leadership, and social mobility for African American communities. She leads initiatives that foster school-community partnerships and advance equity in education. Committed to transformative change, Dr. Okoli works to expand opportunities for underserved youth and empower future generations.
