Bio: Leonissa Johnson, Ph.D., NCC, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counselor Education at Clark Atlanta University. She began her career as a school counselor and is passionate about supporting students’ academic success. Dr. Johnson served as Director of the HBCU Center for Excellence in Behavioral Health (2018–2023), expanding awareness of behavioral health careers to students at 70 HBCUs and providing professional development for graduate and professional students. Her research focuses on diverse student experiences in behavioral health training and on counselors’ work with multilingual learners. Dr. Johnson holds degrees from Hampton University, North Carolina Central University, and the University of Georgia.
