The Department of Mass Media Arts, one of two units in the Division of Communication Arts, provides students with rigorous academic and professional training that is complemented with a strong liberal arts education.
The department offers an array of dynamic programs in communication and media—including digital communications, filmmaking, journalism, public relations, television production, audio/sound design, and sports media and journalism.
The department recognizes the fundamental prerequisites to success depend upon the students' abilities to compete in an employment climate that is competitive, dynamic and global. To this end, while the department encourages effective communication skills, both oral and written, it also facilitates the development of sophisticated abilities in the gathering, analysis, and dissemination of information.
As a result of this approach, students are able to create award-winning productions based upon the highest academic and professional standards. They are also equipped for the most competitive graduate programs in the discipline.
The Department of Mass Media Arts supports the mission of the Division of Communications Arts which seeks to advance the arts, sciences, and practices of human communication through education, experiential activities, cultural perspective, analysis, and advocacy.
