Clark Atlanta University student Kuan Jackson is gaining national recognition in the fashion industry after earning the highest student honor. A junior [fashion merchandising major](https://catalog.cau.edu/undergraduate/programs-study/arts-sciences/humanities/art/fashion-ba/) in the Class of 2027, Jackson has been named the 2026 Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) Chairman’s Award recipient—an achievement that places him among the nation’s most promising emerging creatives.

Presented during FSF LIVE 2026 at The Glasshouse in New York City, the Chairman’s Award is the Fashion Scholarship Fund’s highest distinction. The honoree was selected from a cohort of 160 scholars representing 75 colleges and universities nationwide, underscoring the scale and competitiveness of the program.

The FSF LIVE 2026 gala marked the organization’s 89th annual event, bringing together scholars, educators, and industry leaders for an evening centered on emerging talent and innovation in fashion. The program also awarded more than $1.9 million in scholarships to the Class of 2026 FSF Scholars and Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholars.

As Fashion Scholarship Fund Executive Director Peter Arnold explained, “The Chairman’s Award represents the highest honor and recognizes the student who demonstrates not only exceptional creativity but also the ability to translate that thinking into meaningful, industry impact.” He added that the award signals “a level of readiness and perspective that extends beyond the classroom and into the future of the industry.”

Arnold also noted that the FSF LIVE experience was intentionally designed to elevate student visibility, with scholars’ work showcased throughout the venue in a gallery-style format intended to encourage direct engagement between students and industry professionals.

**A Defining Achievement Rooted in Purpose**

For Jackson, the moment represented both achievement and affirmation. “It meant everything, and at the same time, it felt very grounding,” he said. “More than anything, it felt like confirmation that when you stay true to who you are, trust your vision, and move with intention, things align the way they’re supposed to.”

Even in the moments leading up to the announcement, Jackson described an unexpected calm. Rather than feeling overwhelmed, he felt centered in his faith and his journey. He emphasized that the recognition was not his alone but shared with the people and experiences that shaped him.

**Innovation Through Collaboration**

Jackson earned the Chairman’s Award for his case study, “Built Different. Literally.” The concept is centered on a KidSuper x LEGO collaboration that reimagines how brands engage with consumers. The idea was sparked by a simple question: “What can I put in front of someone that they didn’t even know they needed until I showed them?”

From there, he developed a model rooted in co-creation rather than consumption, inviting consumers to participate in the design process before a product ever reaches the market.

“It’s the difference between hype and contribution,” Jackson explained. “Anyone can build artificial hype. But when you give people the chance to contribute first, the word-of-mouth that follows means something. It’s real.”

Arnold emphasized that this approach is exactly what distinguished Jackson among this year’s candidates. “Kuan stood out for his ability to pair a strong creative vision with a deeply thoughtful and strategic approach,” he said. “His concept moved beyond a traditional brand collaboration by reimagining the relationship between consumer and brand as rooted in creative participation rather than a transaction.”

He also pointed to the depth of Jackson’s preparation. “Kuan studied more than 200 past FSF case studies before developing his own,” Arnold noted. “Rather than starting from a blank page, he built from existing frameworks and refined them into something original and culturally aware.”

**The Clark Atlanta University Impact**

Jackson credits Clark Atlanta University with shaping his approach to creativity, leadership, and collaboration. “Clark Atlanta University has taught me how to lead with intention, how to communicate across different perspectives, and how to stay grounded while still thinking big,” he said.

He described the HBCU experience as one that naturally cultivates excellence. “There’s an energy at an HBCU that’s hard to put into words,” he said. “It’s a culture of excellence that becomes part of how you carry yourself.”

Arnold reinforced the importance of that environment, particularly for students at institutions like Clark Atlanta University. He noted that the Fashion Scholarship Fund supports students from a network of 75 institutions nationwide, including programs that expand access for emerging talent through initiatives such as the Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund.

**Building Community Through Creativity**

Beyond the classroom, Jackson is the founder and creative director of PERFIK CIRCO, a brand that reflects his belief in community-driven creativity. Inspired by his upbringing in New Orleans, his work is rooted in culture, collaboration, and shared experience.

“I’m not designing from a place of trend or expectation,” he said. “I’m designing from culture, from experience, and from truth.”

His approach challenges traditional fashion narratives by shifting the focus from exclusivity to inclusion and from consumption to participation. At the center of his philosophy is a belief that creativity is collective. “You cannot be your best self by yourself,” he said. “Everything I create is centered around that idea.”

**Preparing the Next Generation of Fashion Leaders**

The Fashion Scholarship Fund continues to shape the next generation of industry leaders by providing mentorship, funding, and direct engagement with professionals. The organization’s 2026 cohort reflects a broader pipeline of emerging talent across design, marketing, merchandising, and business strategy disciplines.

Arnold noted that the Chairman’s Award represents more than recognition. “It acknowledges a balance of innovation, clarity, and storytelling,” he said, “qualities that are essential to being a leader in the fashion industry today.”

**A Legacy of Excellence and What’s Next**

Looking ahead, Jackson is focused on continuing to build, learn, and expand his impact. He views the award not as a final destination but as a foundation for what comes next.

“I want to be the best Chairman’s Award winner to ever walk across that stage,” he said. “That’s not ego. That’s purpose. I want to set the tone and show the next generation what’s possible.”

His journey reflects a commitment to growth, community, and long-term impact. “I’m still learning, still building, still becoming,” he said. “Everything I’m doing now is setting the foundation for something bigger, not just for me but for the people coming after me.”

As Clark Atlanta University continues to cultivate leaders across disciplines, Jackson’s achievement stands as a powerful example of what is possible when talent, discipline, and purpose align, reinforcing the university’s legacy of producing graduates who shape industries and drive cultural progress.
