Clark Atlanta University Alum Elected Sheriff of Fulton County

(Clark Atlanta University JUNE 19, 2020) – ATLANTA, GA The highest law enforcement office in the County will soon be held by Clark Atlanta University (CAU) alumus - Patrick “Pat” Labat.  Labat has been elected to serve as the new Sheriff of Fulton County after edging out incumbent Sheriff Ted Jackson by nearly 11-thousand votes in the August 11 run-off election.

“It’s an amazing, outstanding and wonderful opportunity for me to be elected by the people and to serve as the Sheriff of Fulton County. It is my goal to redefine what law enforcement looks like in the County and expand partnerships with other law enforcement agencies,” Labat said. “It is also our goal to focus on keeping the communities where we work, live and play safe.”

Labot, majored in Business Administration while attending CAU and graduated in the Class of 1993. During his time as a student he was an outstanding athlete having walked onto the CAU tennis team as the number six ranked player and elevated to the team’s number one ranked player. Labat also was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, Gamma Kappa Chapter in the Fall of 1987.

Labot credits Clark Atlanta University for his dedicated spirit and ability to remain persistent throughout his thirty plus year career. “I am proud to be a Clark alumnus. CAU helped to shape and mold me. Throughout my career I kept the institution’s mantra I’ll Find A Way or Make One in my thought processes as I faced challenges and worked to reach my goals,” Labat said.

“I remember working from 11:00 p.m. at night till 7:00 a.m. in the morning as a student at Clark Atlanta. There was also a time when I took a break during a semester and thanks to Reverend Dr. Gerald Durley, who was my dean at the time, I returned more determined than ever to complete my degree,” said Labat.

Labat, is a native of Atlanta. He graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1986 and is married to Jacki Labat, a graduate of Hampton University. The Labats have a blended family with four children and two dogs.
