CAU and CAUAA Honor the Spirit of Greatness at 11th Annual Gala

ATLANTA, GA – March 28, 2019 -- Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association, Inc. (CAUAA) hosted its 11th annual Spirit of Greatness Gala Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. Over 500 were in attendance to recognize alumni and pioneers who are making a positive impact in the nation and to raise scholarship funds.

 “This academic year, we have been celebrating our 30th anniversary as an innovative institution of higher education,” said CAU Interim President, Lucille H. Maugé. “Our graduates have shaped and informed the course of history for more than 150 years, and we are honored to support and celebrate their excellence.” The gala is CAUAA’s signature event and benefits the Clark Atlanta University’s Scholarship Fund. Since the inception of the Spirit of Greatness Gala, CAUAA has raised more than $1.5 million for CAU students.

Clark Atlanta University and the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association, Inc. honored:

  • Maurice Slaughter, AU ’85, Chairman & CEO MS Family Enterprises, Pathways to Excellence Award Recipient
  • Brenda W. Walker, CC ’75, Managing Partner, Capital Partners 522 LLC., Thomas W. Cole Jr., Legacy Award Recipient

Onstage during his acceptance speech, Maurice Slaughter pledged $500,000 to the School of Businsess. Slaughter was recognized for his entrepreneurial journey, philanthropic spirit and community engagement.

“The Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association, Inc. takes pride in honoring our distinguished alumni and nation’s trailblazers each year, while raising funds to support the next generation of leaders who are currently matriculating through CAU,” said Devin White, President of CAUAA. “Each year the number of students with unmet financial needs increases. This event helps bridge the gap and we are proud to help make a difference.”
