CAU Gets Tuned In With NBCs Stay Tuned

10/23/2018

ATLANTA, GA -- October 23, 2018 – This week, Clark Atlanta University welcomed hit Snap Chat news show “Stay Tuned” to campus. The NBC news outlet landed at CAU during their 5 campuses college tour, excited to tackle the political views of today’s millennials. Clark Atlanta University had the honor of serving as the only school in Georgia to be included on the tour as well as the only Historically Black College or University. Host Lawrence Jackson holds an intimate roundtable discussion with Georgia Libertarian candidate for Governor, Ted Metz, and three CAU students: SGA Undergraduate President Warren Hawkins III, a Social Work major; Aleemah Ali, a third year student and chair of political action, NAACP-CAU; and Makyah Coleman, a political science major and Honors Scholar.

The conversation engaged today’s young voter on a host of topics and allowed the candidate to hear first-hand some of the concerns of millennials. Students were not only able to gain insight on the Libertarian Party of Georgia but deliver their own opinions on politics and the role they play.

“Although Clark Atlanta University is nonpartisan and does not endorse any political candidate, we always welcome opportunities to provide unique experiences for our students to engage the political process and amplify their own voice,” said Omar Torres, Dean, Student Services and Campus Life.

“Stay Tuned has hit the social world by storm. becoming a trendsetter in their innovative approach to disseminating news.  Our goal was to invent a show for a generation of news watchers NBC News generally does not reach on more traditional platforms,” said Nick Ascheim, senior vice president of digital for NBC News, in a statement. “Using our considerable resources and expertise, and drawing on deep insights from the Snap content team, we’ve hit the mark. While we admittedly did not expect to amass such a vast audience so quickly, we could not be more thrilled that we are reaching so many young news consumers, and helping them stay on top of a complicated world, and—in many cases—introducing them to NBC News.”

This event is the latest in a series of campus political activities during this political season, including the Forward Forum at Martha’s Vineyard, with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams and TV Host Gayle King; Get Out and Vote events and voter registration drives led by CAU’s Public Radio Station, Jazz 91.9 WCLK; and a gubernatorial town hall presented by the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and featuring Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams.

The episode will air on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 on Snapchat. Simply search “Stay Tuned” and Tune in at 4pm est.
