The truth is, identifying what's important is only half the challenge. In this session, we'll discuss strategies for identifying the few Big Rocks (most important priorities: job interviews), and how to prevent the gravel (less important things: bedazzling) from distracting you. We'll talk specifically about your technology, and how important it is to align your relationship with technology to the priorities that matter most.
4# Prioritizing Self-Care While Advancing Your Career. Mindfulness Tools For Uncertain Times
Self-care is important during these challenging times! Before you reach for your DIY nature hair and beard game facials, remember that self-care also means taking care of yourself physically and emotionally. By making small adjustments to your daily routine, you can be more productive in advancing your career forward.
You also no longer have to spend hours scrolling through all of the relaxation apps in the app store for anxiety relief! A really accessible set of tools is available to help make you feel calmer and grounded when anxiety strikes. Even better, the same set of resources can energize you when the afternoon (evening? morning? what does time mean again?) slump hits. Best of all, there’s no online ordering or delayed shipping involved, because you already have everything you need!
5# Professionals: Value of mapping Your Future - What's Next?
COVID-19 may have cancelled your summer plans, but it doesn't have to delay your future success. Haven’t become that Tik-Tok or Instagram superstar you were hoping to be when quarantine began? Well, the next best thing quarantine provides is an excellent opportunity to reflect on your goals and the best ways to achieve them. Understanding how to expand your network, increasing your industry and functional knowledge, and continuing to position your goals for future success. Let's discuss the value of a secondary degree and why now might be the best time for you to apply.
7# Professionals: Positivity as a Driver of Connection and Resilience
As supermen and superwomen, we were already pushing our emotional processing limits before COVID-19, so how do we manage even greater uncertainty moving forward? And do we just want to manage, or actually use this time to build resilience and the confidence to lead ourselves and others with greater positive impact?
We often intend to approach our work with more optimism, yet we might not have the appreciation or tools to go about it. Black journalists will discuss the importance of Black media, from ownership to reporting, with leading voices; telling our own stories, coronavirus, Election Day to our fight for social justice.
9# CAU Is Black Excellence - Strengthening Governance at our Institution
Once this pandemic has receded or is over, higher education as we have known it will not return to normal. Effective governance will be more important than ever because it affects all aspects of an institution’s sustainability including accreditation, tuition and fee policies, curricular offerings and services, learning outcomes, facilities, and technology infrastructure, among others. This is a wakeup call for HBCU governing boards, hence, a new paradigm is required to ensure the selection of trustees who are committed to fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities differently than is the case currently.
