Title IX: Responding to Sexual Misconduct and Sex-Based Discrimination


Clark Atlanta University is committed to ensuring a safe learning environment that supports the dignity of all members of the CAU community. As a recipient of federal funds, the University complies with Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. ("Title IX") and therefore prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, and parental status in its education programs or activities, including, but not limited to, admissions processes and extracurricular activities.  In compliance with Title IX, the University is and remains committed to:

  • Providing programs, activities, and an educational environment free from Sex Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct;
  • Fostering an environment that encourages prompt reporting of all types of Sexual Misconduct and Sex Discrimination and a timely response to reports and formal complaints;
  • Providing adequate, prompt, fair and impartial investigations into and resolution of formal complaints of Sexual Misconduct and Sex Discrimination; and
  • Ensuring that Title IX processes are conducted by University officials who receive annual training on the issues related to Sexual Misconduct and Sex Discrimination, and on how to conduct an investigation and hearing process that is fair and impartial.
