During the 2012-2017 grant cycle, the Center will receive funding all five years. This funding will be used to fully develop the Master Teacher Institute (MTI), which will provide professional development workshops for faculty to enhance their skills as teachers, scholars, and practitioners toward the retention of undergraduate students. At the end of five years, the MTI will provide certification to faculty who complete the five-unit workshop series. Through this institute student learning outcomes will be improved to ensure student engagement and success at the University by preparing faculty to provide instruction in the most effective way.
During the 2012-2013 grant year, the MTI will be launched and a series of faculty workshops will be offered. The first MTI unit will be developed, which will include a syllabus, curriculum, and DVD. Market research and data will be collected on the instruments via field and pilot testing to document the impact and value the MTI will have on student success and college completion.
By the end of the five-year cycle, it is expected that the activity will be supported by funds from the Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs, external organizations via grants, and sale of the Master Teacher Institute Workshop Series. During the 2013-2014 grant year, 25 percent of the Title III budget will be moved to the institution’s operations budget. An additional 25 percent will be moved each year until the activity is fully supported by funds from the Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs, external organizations, and MTI sales in 2017.
