Marlissa, a graduate of the University of West Georgia in Finance and DePaul University with an M.B.A. in Managerial Accounting, is the principal of MJ Phillips Company in Atlanta. For over 15 years, she has serviced small businesses and individuals in the area of accounting and tax. MJ Phillips Company successfully graduated from the Fulton County Economic Incubator program and completed the 8(a) program where Marlissa managed an eight-year bill paying contract with the Department of Labor. Over the span of her career, Marlissa has worked with clients in various industries including real estate, retail, manufacturing, advertising, education, and public service. An impactful area for Marlissa has been establishing accounting procedures, implementing internal controls, and supervising accounting staff for organizations. Marlissa has also specialized in working with organizations in transition. She served on the team for a merger/relocation project and as Controller to consolidate two manufacturing operations. As a Certified Public Accountant, she issues compilation and review financial statements. She has worked with other CPA firms on audit engagements and partnered with a contractor to service the GA Lottery Cash 3 drawings.
With the teaching principle of "give a fish and eat for a day, learn how to fish and eat for a lifetime", Marlissa is a member of faculty at Clark Atlanta University where she teaches Principles of Accounting, Individual and Business Tax, Auditing and Advanced Accounting. In addition, she functions as a facilitator for Gatlin-Cengage education for online Bookkeeping courses and is an instructor for Becker CPA review course.
Marlissa enjoys spending time with her husband, Leonard, and their girls, Lindsey, Leslie, and Leah.
