Dr. Crystal R. Hudson joined Clark Atlanta University’s School of Business faculty, teaching finance and financial planning courses in August 2012. Prior to joining CAU, Dr. Hudson had a successful career in corporate finance for 15 years with major consumer products companies such as Sara Lee Corp., Haagen Dazs Inc. and The Weather Channel Corp. Within these corporate finance positions, Dr. Hudson financially evaluated new products for Sara Lee, led merger and acquisition strategic analysis for Haagen Dazs and determined the ROI for commercials and new shows on the Weather Channel.
Dr. Hudson's research interests involve understanding the impact of advice from financial planners as well as financial education from financial experts on the financial behaviors of select groups such as low-income employees and college students. As such, Dr. Hudson co-authored an article entitled “Low-Income Employees: The Relationship between Financial Behaviors and Information from Formal Advisors”. This article was published in the Financial Services Review journal in March 2014. Dr. Hudson is also co-authoring two other working papers, one entitled “Low-Income Employees: The Effects of the 2007-2009 Financial Crisis on Financial Behaviors” and “The Relationship between Financial Literacy and Retirement Readiness”.
Dr. Hudson is also the Director of CAU’s Financial Planning Program; A CFP Board of Standards registered program which enables students to become Certified Financial Planners and lead successful careers within the financial services industry. Long term partners of CAU’s Financial Planning program includes Morgan Stanley, Sun Trust, and Apex Financials.
Dr. Hudson earned a Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from the University of Georgia in May of 2012, and earned a M.B.A. in Finance from Clark Atlanta University in 1993. In 1987 Dr. Hudson earned a Bachelor of Science in Operations and Systems Management from Indiana University.
