Clark Atlanta University President Elected to SACSCOC Board for Third Term

12/10/2019

ATLANTA, GA – December 11, 2019--The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) at its December 2019 annual board meeting, announced that Clark Atlanta University President Dr. George T. French, Jr., has been re-elected to his third term as a part of the 77-member SACSCOC Board of Trustees.

SACSCOC oversees the accreditation of colleges within the southern region, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

“SACSCOC plays a significant role in higher education,” French said. “Thorough peer assessment based upon objective and unbiased benchmarks interpreted in a value-added approach results in colleges and universities becoming more effective.”

Additionally, French is a member of the Congressionally-appointed National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI), the organization that oversees all regional accreditors. As a member of NACIQI, he also serves as advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Education.

French, who in September of this year became the fifth president of Clark Atlanta University, was first elected to the SACSCOC Board of Trustees in 2013, during his 13-year tenure as president of Miles College in Fairfield, Ala.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve on the SACSCOC Board,” French said. “I believe I can continue to offer a unique perspective as one of the few people in the nation to serve on both a regional accrediting board as well as NACIQI.”
