ATLANTA, GA – April 30, 2019 – Clark Atlanta University today announced that CAU student Leah Hernandez, a graduating senior in the business school with a concentration in marketing, has been named amongst the top five finalists in the 2019 GMAT™ Think Like an Entrepreneur competition. Hosted by the Graduate Management Admission Council™ (GMAC), producers of the GMAT™, the competition calls undergraduate students to leverage business skills for social innovation. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000, a press release and a feature on mba.com, and will play a role at GMAC’s Annual Conference in June 2019.
Undergraduate students were called to craft and submit an impactful solution (product, service, program) that addresses a social cause. Leah Hernandez is the founder and CEO of Young Authors Publishing, which provides children in low-income communities with classes on writing and financial literacy so they can publish their own children’s story and keep the proceeds in a savings account for their future.
A panel of experienced business professionals and educators selected up to 10 Semi-Finalists for advancement to the Student Voting round, evaluating based on creativity, originality, and strategic message & rationale.
“Solving the world’s most pressing problems requires a toolbox of skills across all areas of business: creative thinking, leadership, strategy, financial management, and much more,” said Glenda Lucas, Senior Manager, Americas, Graduate Management Admission Council. “Leah’s idea resonates because her idea is so heartfelt.”
Hernandez recently won first place in the 2019 SPARKHOUSE FinTech Pitch Competition sponsored by Minority Business Development Association and Lockheed Martin, earning the $5,000 in cash to put toward her business.
Student Voting: From April 15-May 15, current full-time or part-time students can cast their votes to select the grand prize winner of $10,000; four runners-up will win $500 each.
