CAU Hosts Official Pinning Ceremony for Chief of Public Safety

CAU President Ronald A. Johnson pins the badge on Debra A. Williams, new Chief of Public Safety

 

ATLANTA, GA – October 17, 2018 -- Today Clark Atlanta University held a brief Pinning Ceremony at the Henderson Student Center to officially install Chief Debra Williams, as the University’s next Chief of Public Safety. CAU faculty, staff and executive leadership were joined by Eldrin Bell, former Chief of Police for the City of Atlanta and Clayton County Board of Commissioners chair; Erika Shields, current Chief of Police for the City of Atlanta; and Clarence E. Cox, past President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), as well as law enforcement officers from other AUC schools.

Chief Debra A. Williams has over 34 years of law enforcement experience. She began her career with the City of Atlanta Police Department in 1983 until retiring in 2011 as a Major in rank. Before retiring with the City of Atlanta Police Department, Major Williams commanded the day-to-day operations of Executive Protection Unit, Narcotics, Homeland Security, Vice, Gangs and Guns, REDDOG, License and Permits, HIDTA Task Force, Property Control, Personnel Services, Human Resource, Finance, Grants Management, Fleet Services and Background and Recruitment Units.

In 2014, she joined the Clayton County Public Schools Police Department as a major. Prior to joining Clayton County Public Schools Police Department, she served as a Senior Police Advisor, and Deputy Team Leader responsible for providing law enforcement instruction, mentoring, and delivery of training programs.

In addition to serving as Interim Chief, Williams will also work with the University to conduct a full review of the CAU Public Safety Department to ensure that it continues to provide a high level of service.
