ATLANTA (April 12, 2018) – Clark Atlanta University (CAU) President Ronald A. Johnson today announced the selection of Dr. Lanze J. Thompson as senior vice president for Financial Services, effective April 16, 2018. He will report to the University’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, Lucille F. Maugé.
Thompson is currently the vice president for Financial Management for the Georgia Lottery Corporation, where he manages the day-to-day financial activities for the $4-billion organization, including financial and games accounting, treasury and banking, and retailer credit and collections.
“Dr. Thompson is a welcomed addition to our leadership team. His 25-year track record of success as a visionary leader in finance and strategic management, and his unique blend of experiences will enhance our ability to excel as a leading research university focused on transforming lives and igniting new possibilities for the world,” said President Johnson.
Thompson has held executive-level positions at several Fortune 100 companies, including Time Warner/CNN, Ford Motor Company, Alcoa, Con Edison, PSEG, and Philip Morris/Kraft Foods. He also served as the president and COO of two start-up subsidiaries at PSEG and Con Edison.

Before joining the Georgia Lottery, Thompson was vice president for Finance at CNN Domestic Networks & Capital. There he managed forecasting, budgeting, financial analysis, and capital for the Domestic Networks and CNN Administration, including CNN, HLN, CNN Marketing, Program Development, Operations, and Engineering.
Thompson has written four business books: The Globalization Paradigm, Transcend from Management to Leadership, The Consumer Value Model and Quarterly Profits vs. Long-Term Strategy.
He earned his doctorate in business from Pace University, with concentrations in global marketing strategy and international business; received an MBA from Boston College, concentrating in strategic management and finance; and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colby College.
