ATLANTA (JAN. 25, 2017) Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company will host Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen in conversation with Monica Pearson, former evening anchor at WSB-TV Channel 2. Leon, a CAU alumnus, will open the event to the public at no cost. This is the second installment of True Colors’ 2016-2017 Community Conversations series happening Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. in Davage Auditorium located inside Haven-Warren Hall on the main campus of CAU.
This conversation will center on the struggles Atlanta Public Schools have faced in recent years and Dr. Carstarphen’s plans for the future of APS. This conversation is presented as a prelude to our southeastern premiere of Exit Strategy written by Ike Holter and directed by John Dillon. Since education is at the forefront of discussions in our community, Exit Strategy, a play about a failing urban school, is timely, relevant and relatable.
"Theatre should be more than entertainment," said Pearson. "It should be thought provoking and that's why the True Colors Community Conversation on past and current problems of the Atlanta Public Schools dovetails so well with the Southeast premier of Exit Strategy. Dr. Carstarphen right now is tackling school closings or consolidations, while still trying to right the wrongs of the APS cheating scandal. She's been here since 2014 and I'm looking forward to hearing how she grades her system now, as it relates to students, many of whom could one day be students at Clark Atlanta University, where the conversation will be held."
This conversation is presented in partnership with CAU. For more information on this groundbreaking event call 404.532.1901.Category: Administration, Faculty, Students, Staff
