ATLANTA (November 16, 2016) After nearly a decade managing corporate communications strategies at the world's largest retailer, Deisha Barnett is leaving Walmart for a new challenge at the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The Clark Atlanta University alumna will serve as senior vice president of marketing and communications at the Chamber.
In her new role, Barnett will oversee executive communications, marketing, branding and media relations, according to PRWeek. She will also be responsible for reinforcing the Chamber's efforts to spur job creation, enable sustained economic growth and attract and retain talent.
“I'm excited to continue leveraging the skills I learned as a mass communications student at CAU,” said Barnett. “My CAU professors, mentors and network of awesome CAU alumni and friends have played critical roles as I've navigated career decisions over the years. I will work hard to make them all proud as I begin this new adventure.”
During her time at Walmart, Barnett managed several high profile campaigns, including Black Friday sales, a $2 billion hunger relief effort and confederate flag sales controversy.
Her first communications internship was in CAU’s Office of University Relations under the tutelage of the late Toni Mosley during the 1997-1998 school year.
"I'm ready to work hard to help position Atlanta and the surrounding area as a great place to do business and a great place to live," Barnett said in her Walmart departure email. She begins her new position Nov. 29.Category: Alumni
