Dr. Jamie T. Pleasant holds the distinction of being the first African American to graduate with a Ph.D. degree in marketing from the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology, which is currently ranked #23 in tier one business schools in America by Businessweek. He has completed several certifications from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. Dr. Pleasant has worked several years in corporate America on distinguished brands including Tylenol Allergy Sinus as well as Dow Chemical's epoxy resin brands. Dr. Pleasant holds the M.B.A. degree from Clark Atlanta University and the B.S. degree in Physics from Benedict College. He walked on Clemson University's football team and earned a full scholarship where he studied Marketing. He currently serves on Forbes Magazine’s Executive Advisory Panel and Business Week’s Executive Board of Marketing Advisors. Dr. Pleasant obtained numerous fellowships during his academic development as he scored a 690 on the GMAT which is in the 98th percentile among all scorers of that exam. He earned the prestigious Johnson & Johnson Fellowship (CAU), Georgia Institute of Technology President’s Fellowship (highest fellowship offered), Frank Jervey Scholarship (Clemson) and C&S Bank scholarship (Benedict College). He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society (Georgia Tech and CAU), Beta Gamma Phi Honor Society (Georgia Tech), and Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society (Benedict College).

Dr. Pleasant was trained in academic research and studied directly under Dr. Naresh Malhotra of Georgia Tech who was the number one ranked international publisher from 1980-2005 of academic articles in tier one “A” journals like the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Consumer Research and many others. Dr. Pleasant’s dissertation utilized structural equation modeling (SEM) that tested latent psychographic variables in consumer behavior studies through LISREL algorithms. He has published in numerous peer reviewed refereed articles such as, The Journal of Exclusive Management Science, Journal of Ethnic Marketing, Journal of Business and Economic Issues, International Journal of Business and Social Science and the I-Manager’s Journal on Management. His research interests include; ethnic marketing, healthcare marketing and consumer behavior. He has authored six books including two best sellers, Advertising Principles and Prayers That Open Heaven. He teaches marketing research specializing in Predictive Analytics (PA) emphasizing PASW Modeler 13 (formally Clementine) and PASW 17 (formally SPSS), sales, IMC, brand management, marketing strategies and consumer behavior. He is the founder and senior editor of the Journal of Ethnic Marketing.

He is married to Kimberly Pleasant and has two sons, Christian and Zion, and a daughter, Nacara.
