Associate Professor

Dr. Charlie Carter earned his masters and doctorate degrees in Economics from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Tougaloo College, Tougaloo, Mississippi as well as an Associate Degree in Accounting from Mary Holmes College in West Point Mississippi. Dr. Carter is presently an Associate Professor of Economics at Clark Atlanta University, School of Business Administration. He has also served as chairman of the Economics Department at Atlanta University. In that capacity he has taught a variety of economic courses both at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

He has supervised a number of master theses, served as principle investigator over several federal-funded projects including the U.S. Departments of Energy, Commerce, and Army. He also spent devoted a full year with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency conducting research on waste disposal in the southeast. Prior to his employment at Clark Atlanta University, Dr. Carter was a senior economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta for almost ten years. In addition, Dr. Carter taught the Money and Banking course in the Business Department at Morehouse College for many years. Dr. Carter also taught economics at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida for four years prior to relocating his family to Atlanta.

During Dr. Carter’s tenure at the Federal Reserve Bank, he published many articles, provided commentaries for the newspaper, was a keynote speaker to business and civic organizations and served on the Board of Directors of Families First of Atlanta. Dr. Carter has served as the faculty representative on the Board of Trustees of Clark Atlanta University. He is a consultant and provides expert witness in many major legal cases including automobile dealers, mortgage discrimination, employment discrimination, and general fraud including Black Farmers. As a consultant, he also assists in preparing business disparity studies for a number of cities and counties in the United States. He was the primary preparer of the quantitative analysis section for the Birmingham Disparity Study, 2008.

Dr. Carter was the recipient of a “Teacher of the Year” award in economics in the School of Business at Clark Atlanta University as well as from INROADS, Atlanta.

Dr. Carter’s greatest pride is for his family and church. He is married to Juanita Florence Carter and they are the very proud parents of four children, Duane (Aminah), LeToiya(Derrick), Kimberly and Spencer. They have two wonderful grandsons, Jalyn Duane and Colin Derrick. Dr. Carter has served on the Board of Trustees at Friendship Baptist Church and presently serves as a Deacon.
