Dr. J. Robert Adams, Associate Professor, Coordinator of Vocal Studies, Bass
Dr. J. Robert Adams, bass, is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Vocal Studies at Clark Atlanta University. He is an active recitalist/teacher and soloist for the First Church of Christian Scientist, Fayetteville, Georgia. He has performed over seventeen complete opera roles and more than fifteen characters in numerous opera scenes programs. Adams recently joined the New York Harlem Theatre, performing with them in Porgy and Bess at the Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Italy. He has also toured with Atlanta Opera’s European tour of Porgy and Bess as an ensemble member where he performed at the Opéra Comique of Paris, France. Adams performed roles for several operas by composer Dr. Sharon Willis, including her productions of 3kings and a PRINCE and The Candlers of Callan, and, several European productions of Mozart’s Cosí fan Tutte and Il Flauto Magico. Dr. Adams served as Music Director for Clark Atlanta University’s CAU Players in productions of Three Penny Opera and Carmen Jones. He served as President/Registrar of the Alabama Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (ALANATS). Adams also served as Regional Registrar for the southeast region of the National Teachers of Singing (NATS). Adams holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor William Warfield.
