Tharon L. Johnson (CAU, '01)

Tharon Johnson, managing director at McKenna, Long & Aldridge has more than a decade of experience as a senior policy advisor and campaign manager for local, state and national Democrats. He most recently served as the Southern Regional Director for the re-election campaign of U.S. President Barack Obama. Mr. Johnson’s undefeated record as a campaign manager includes victories for State Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan; former Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond; Congressmen John Barrow and Congressman John Lewis. He served as campaign manager for Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in 2009 and subsequently as his senior advisor. In his current role, Mr. Johnson counsels a wide range of clients on how to effectively work with government and identifies opportunities for them to advance their business goals through successful public sector partnerships.
In 2012, Mr. Johnson was honored by Georgia Trend Magazine and Atlanta Business Chronicle as a “40 under 40” award recipient. He has also been named by James Magazine as one of the top 25 most influential Geor- gians, and is the only African American to be named a Campaigns & Elections 2010 Rising Star. The American Association of Political Consultants awarded Mr. Johnson its 2010 Campaign Manager of the Year, making him the youngest and first African American to receive the distinction. Actively engaged in his community, Mr. Johnson is a Board member of KIPP Metro Atlanta and mentor for Big Brothers and Sisters of Metro Atlanta.
He received the Bachelor's Degree in History from Clark Atlanta University in 2001.
