Before committing to service as a community activist and volunteer for health and education causes that directly affect the well-being of children and women, particularly African-Americans, Mrs. Russell held internships with The Coca-Cola Company and McMaster-Carr industrial Supply Company, after which she held positions as assistant brand manager for the Coca-Cola Company Fountain Division; product development manager for Bell South Cellular and was responsible for creating brand relevancy and advertising plans for the GTE Wireless program.

Mrs. Russell has actively engaged in several noteworthy activities. Following a successful kidney transplant between her husband and his brother, Mrs. Russell organized the first-ever American Kidney Fund Gala. The event generated in excess of $300,000 to advance the organization's work in prevention, education and grassroots assistance. The Fund is the beneficiary of a $100,000 gift, secured by Mrs. Russell from the H.J. Russell Family Foundation, in recognition of her husband Jerome and brother-in-law Michael. A member of several philanthropic and community organizations, Mrs. Russell serves on the board of the National Black Arts Foundation, Wren’s Nest, Villages of Carver YMCA and the Westminster Schools' Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Institute for Philanthropy and Service Learning. She is actively involved on committees within the Woodward Academy community and the Girl Scouts of America. Mrs. Russell has chaired and co-chaired many events throughout the Atlanta community, most recently the 2011 and 2013 National Black Arts Festival (NBAF). As a founding member of Granting Atlanta’s Wishes (G.A.W), a nine-woman member-organization, Mrs. Russell provides assistance to those seeking to pursue their educational, entrepreneurial and artistic dreams.

She received the Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA rom Clark Atlanta University in 1993. Mrs. Russell is married to H. Jerome Russell and they have four children.
