Carl Ware (CC, ’65)
Founding Board Chairman, 1988
One of The Coca-Cola Company’s highest ranking executives until his retirement in February 2003, Carl Ware served as founding chair of the Clark Atlanta University Board of Trustees for fifteen years. During his tenure as chair, he helped to guide the college through a series of historical achievements, in- cluding the 1988 consolidation of Atlanta University and Clark College to form Clark Atlanta University. Since retiring as chair in 2003, Mr. Ware’s legacy of service remains evident in one of the University’s newest multi-million dollar academic facilities, the Carl and Mary Ware Academic Center, which opened in 2004.
For their many and varied contributions to their alma mater, Mary and Carl Ware hold distinction as the University’s largest alumni donors. Mr. Ware currently serves as a director of the following corporations: Chevron, Cummins, Inc., and PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties. He has also served as chair of the Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Metropolitan Atlanta United Way Campaign, and Board of Directors, Georgia Power. Mr. Ware holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clark College and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
