Overview
Students may study at a foreign institution, while still remaining
enrolled at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), through the study
abroad program. The opportunities to do so are numerous. Because
CAU is a member of several consortia-CIEE, CCIS, the University
Center of Georgia, IES, and DISstudents have the opportunity
to apply their programs, quite often without incurring additional
costs. Through these consortia, students have access to programs
throughout the world. CAU is also the sponsor of the Jamaica
Summer Study Program for students of mass media arts.
In the past, students have
studied on several continentsAfrica, Asia, Australia, Central
America, Europe, and South Americaas well as in the Caribbean.
Many secured scholarships from outside sources; other utilized
the existing financial aid supplemented by personal funds.
There are also opportunities for incoming students to study abroad
the summer prior to their freshman year. This is done to introduce
the student to the international arena while enhancing their
language proficiency. Acceptance into the program is not automatic;
the student must have completed first-year student orientation
and have met all academic requirements as well as the financial
obligations for the program. For most of the programs,
a 2.5 GPA and strong references attesting to the student's academic
acumen and social maturity will be required. By taking advantage
of this experience, the student will be awarded as much
as 6 hours academic credit towards graduation.
