Mission and Goals

The African and African American Studies Program


The African and African American Studies Program prepares students for doctoral work in African American and diasporic studies. It also provides professionals in various fields (such as librarianship, K-12 teaching and journalism) with substantial supportive expertise about African Americans and related scholarship.

The Africana Women's Studies Program

The Africana Women's Studies Program prepares students for doctoral work in women of African descent throughout the diaspora and on the Continent. The Program has as its mission, to train women to work with other women and families and to help alleviate problems related to women's issues. It also provides professionals in various fields: government, refugee women, men and families, education, film, etc.
