    YEAR IN REVIEW: 2012 – 2013

    ·The faculty produced more than 10 publications and 20 research presentations;

    ·After nearly two decades, Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) International Honor Society, Gamma Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Clark Atlanta University, School of Education (SOE), was reactivated and held its Initiation Candlelight Ceremony on April 30, 2013;

    ·Almost 48% of the 2012-2013doctoral graduates at CAU came from the School of Education (SOE);

    ·Dr. Anthony Pinder, recent graduate of the doctoral program, became the Associate Vice President for Internationalization at Gwinnett College;

    ·Georgia Educational Leadership Faculty Association (GELFA) hosted its meeting at CAU in the spring of 2013, plus the President-elect is the Department Chair of our Educational Leadership program: Dr. Moses Norman.

    ·Dr. Moses Norman was also asked to serve on several state-wide task forces by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission;

    ·CAU (SOE) was awarded $50,000 to administrate the Horizons National Summer Project. As a result of our work, the executive group of the organization plans to use the CAU model as the national model. The Horizons National Summer Project was televised at WNET studios in Lincoln Center NYC last week.     ·Dr. Sheila Gregory made a presentation on Invitational Education at the Chinese National Press Conference in Nanjing, China at the request of the Chinese Minister of Education during her visit to China (as part of a delegation) in the fall of 2012;

    ·Dr. Ruby Thompson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction awarded the Aldridge-McMillan Teaching Excellence Award for Outstanding Faculty;

    ·Dr. Dashiell-Mitchell was awarded the Aldridge-McMillan Teaching Excellence Award for Outstanding Adjunct Faculty;

    ·Honors program renamed the Isabella Taylor Jenkins Honors Program:

    ·Aaron Cuthrell, 2008 graduate of the Elementary Education program, was recently promoted to Educational Associate for grades K-2 in the Baltimore City School District;

    ·Alexandra Daniel, 2008 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program just completed a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in Instructional Technology. She currently is the technology coordinator for Kipp Harmony in Baltimore City Schools (where she has been for the past six years);

    ·Regina Page, 2008 graduate of the Elementary Education program, just graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Data Driven Decision Making and Effective Teaching of Reading. She has been a teacher for 7 years at Govans Elementary School and is currently working on an Administration Certificate;

    ·Dr. James Young was recognized by NAEYC – he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award;

    ·Institute for the Study of the African American Child (ISAAC) May 2013 Conference:

        oFaculty presented at this conference;

        oFaculty and doctoral students presented research together;

        oDoctoral graduates presented their research together; and

        oThe Dean of the SOE was made a Senior Fellow of ISAAC


    SUMMER 2013

    ·Recent doctoral graduates of the Educational Leadership program, Drs. Anthony Pinder ‘11 and Melissa Eades ’12, were invited (this summer) to participate in the Harvard Institute for New and Aspiring School Leaders;

    ·Dr. Anthony Pinder, 2011 graduate, received a national award for faculty advising from Sigma Iota Rho Honor Society for International Studies (based out of UPenn);

    ·Dr. Danielle Battle, 2009 graduate of the doctoral program in Educational Leadership, was asked to serve on a statewide task force addressing Educational Leadership by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GA PSC);

    ·Under the leadership of Drs. Felicia Mayfield and Dashiell-Mitchell the Horizons National Summer Partnership project helped put CAU on the map with developing an extraordinary set of learning experiences this summer for select children and their families that caused the executive group of Horizons National to use the CAU SOE prototype as the national model;

    ·Ms. Ashlei Holmes-Wiseman, 2011 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program was named the outstanding M.Ed. at Mercer University;

    ·Dr. Ruby Thompson, of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and Dr. Eric Mintz, of the Department of Chemistry, were awarded $300,000 by NOYCE for Capacity-Building in the area of STEM-education; and

    ·Dr. Sherrod Willaford, 2000 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, recently appointed Executive Director for Elementary Schools, Norfolk, VAFALL 2013

    ·Ms. Ashlei Holmes-Wiseman, 2011 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, was made grade-level at her school this fall;

    ·Dr. Nicole Gibbs, 2013 graduate of the doctoral program in Educational Leadership, was recently appointed as the new Vice Provost for Access and Enrollment Services at the University of the Virgin Islands;

    ·Dr. Nicole Gibbs, 2013 graduate of the doctoral program in Educational Leadership presented her research at the Inaugural Black Ph.D. Conference in Philadelphia PA, October 3 – 5 2013;

    ·Dr. Ruby Thompson, of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, was awarded the 2012-13 Vulcan Award for Teaching Excellence;

    Dr. Sherrod Willaford, 2000 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, recently appointed Executive Director for Elementary Schools, Norfolk, VA  

    FALL 2013

    · Ms. Ashlei Holmes-Wiseman, 2011 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, was made grade-level at her school this fall;

    · Aunique Austin, 2012 graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, was just made grade level chair at her school;
