| | BACKGROUND: | The theme of this exhibit, Sankofa, is a Ghanaian term that means to “use the wisdom of the past to build the future.” The exhibit spans the period of 1860 to the present time, with a historic journey through slavery, the era of King Cotton, and the uplifting days of Emancipation.
