Dr. Elridge W. McMillan (CC ’54) is president emeritus of the Southern Education Foundation and is presently “Scholar-in-Residence/Education” at Atlanta Metropolitan College. A 30-year member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, Dr. McMillan has an esteemed record of service in higher education.
 
A trailblazer, Dr. McMillan was the first African American hired in the Southeast Regional Office of Economic Opportunity in 1965 where he held the position of program supervisor. He was the first to serve as chief of the education branch of the Office for Civil Rights of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare in 1967. He was also the first African American to lead the Southern education foundation and the first African American to chair Georgia’s Board of Regents.
 
Most recently, Dr. McMillan was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation. He holds a master’s degree from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Clark College.
