Lady Panthers Receive SIAC Honors

Atlanta, Ga. - Clark Atlanta University women’s track and field team received the 2011 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s All-Academic Team Award. Keyna Franklin topped the All-Academic Team with a 4.0 grade point average in psychology followed by Ariel Lomax (3.87), Tamara Comer (3.63), and Nekesha Whitaker (3.60).
 
In addition, Brittany Robinson and Breanna Pleasant were named to the All-Conference First team in the 1500-meters, 3,000-meter Steeplechase and 10,000-meters, respectively. Robinson posted the fastest time in the 1500 among other conference runners while Pleasant’s time of 13:19.11 in the 3,000 Steeplechase and 46:11.43 in the 10,000 garnered her the top spots in those running events this season.

The second team All-Conference selections were led by Markeshia Woodson in the Pole Vault who cleared the bar at 2.68-meters in the Morehouse Relays and won first place in this event. Phyllis Shelman-Ford’s time of 48:01.71 in the 10,000-meter and Pleasant’s 19:44.42 performance in the 5,000 rounded out the All-Conference team for Clark Atlanta.

Woodson and Robinson Place at SIAC Championship

Atlanta, Ga.- Clark Atlanta University All-Conference selections Brittany Robinson and freshman Markeisha Woodson placed second in the 1500-meters and pole vault, respectively in the 2011 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships Saturday on the campus of Morehouse College.

As a team, the Lady Panthers finished fifth while the men’s team garnered seventh place. Below are other results from the SIAC championships.

CAU Track and Field Gearing Up for Championships

Atlanta, GA-
Clark Atlanta University men’s and women’s track and field teams will rely on the experience of seniors Breanna Pleasant, Maury Swift and Justin Miller to pace the Panthers to a higher finish this season in the upcoming Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championships set to begin Thursday, April 14, at Edwin Moses Track on the campus of Morehouse College.

Pleasant won the 10,000-meter at the Morehouse relays this season while Swift’s time of 49.39 in the 400-meter at Georgia Tech relays ranks him among the conference top ten leaders in that event. Miller, CAU’s distance runner, posted times of 10:43.26 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 17:12.88 in the 5,000-meter earlier this season which also puts him among the best in the conference.

CAU will compete in all running and field events which begins with the Decathlon and Heptathlon at
9 a.m., followed by the men’s and women’s long jump, shot put and hammer throw field events. The preliminary round for some running events begins at 4 p.m., preceded by the 2011 Opening Ceremony at 3 p.m.
