CAU Baseball Debuts Against AUC Rival Morehouse

Atlanta, GA- A foundation of young talent sets the playing field for the Clark Atlanta University Panthers baseball team as it gears up for its season opener Saturday, Feb. 5th, in a non-conference match-up away against AUC rival Morehouse College at 12 p.m.

Clark Atlanta Head Coach Derwin McNealy is relying on a pool of young, energetic freshmen to help rebuild the program. “Although inexperienced, we go into the season with the same goals: play hard and intelligent and be competitive every pitch of every inning,” said McNealy.

The Panthers return All-Conference preseason selection Robert Brown in outfield along with senior outfielder Dominic Hughes. CAU recorded only three wins last season and went winless in the SIAC conference. The Panthers will definitely have home field advantage this season with 14 of their 23 games at home beginning with non-conference opponent Concordia College, Tuesday, Feb 8th, at 1 p.m., which will be played at Browns Mill Park in Decatur, GA. All other CAU home games will be played at Bill Evans Field in College Park.
Clark Atlanta opens conference play on the road with a series against Albany State March 12-13, followed by a seven home game stretch starting with Benedict College March 19th. There are five other non-conference match-ups slated for the Panthers against Alabama State (2/19 & 3/9), Savannah State (2/22), Voorhees (3/27), and Concordia (4/7). CAU wraps up its season the way it began with Morehouse April 23rd and 24th. The SIAC tournament will be held April 27-30 at a location to be announced at a later date.

“If we are able to reach our goals and not beat ourselves, we can make some noise in the SIAC tournament,” McNealy said.
